The Democratic Party doesn’t want Americans to know that it was Democratic President Jimmy Carter who used a 1952 law to ban Iranian Muslims from entering the United States.
Carter went further when he required ALL Iranian students in the United States to check in with our government. Seven thousand had visa violations. Eventually 15,000 Iranian Muslims were deported from the United States. How many liberals know this?
The catalyst for these measures was the attack and seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran, Iran by Iranian students in 1979. American embassy employees and Marine guards were then held captive. Muslim cleric Khomeini held them captive in violation of international law for almost a year.
Carter’s reaction was to invoke the 1952 “The McCarran-Walter Act”. The law allows for the “….suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the President, whenever the President finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States. The President may, by proclamation, and for such a period as he shall deem necessary, may suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants or impose any restrictions on the entry of aliens he may deem to be appropriate.”
Democratic Jimmy Carter used the law to ban Iranian Muslims from entering the United States and to deport thousands of Iranian students. At the time, Democrats saw nothing wrong with Carter’s actions. They fully support him. Furthermore, to free the hostages, Cater agreed to release $8 billion in Iranian assets which he originally froze in the US. In short, it was ransom money. (Remember Obama also paid ransom money for American hostages prior to leaving office.)
Today, Iran is the biggest supporter of terrorism around the world. Yet Obama negotiated with them and gave them billions of dollars in his Iranian nuclear deal. What he got in return was nothing. The sanctions were squeezing Iran and their economy was in trouble. By providing billions to the Iranians he gave their economy a shot in the arm.
Former Marine Sergeant Rocky Sickmann who was one of the hostages in 1979 said this in an interview for Military History magazine, March, 2017, “Sanctions work pretty well. We should tighten them to the point it makes them squirm. Instead, we just gave them all this money. I don’t think it’s going toward solving poverty in Iran, and I don’t think it’s going into human rights. It’s paying for other terrorist events around the world.”
Isn’t it the truth!
