“Don’t let anybody tell you that it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs. You know that old theory, trickle-down economics. That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly. One of the things my husband says when people say, ‘What did you bring to Washington?’ He says, ‘I brought arithmetic.’”
These words were spoken by Hillary Clinton at a rally on Friday for Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley. She must be losing brain cells.
The first sentence was outright stupid. Of course, corporations and businesses create jobs. Otherwise, Hillary was pointing the finger at government as the culprit responsible for our nation’s high unemployment rate.
The last part is equally stupid. “One of the things my husband says when people say, ‘What did you bring to Washington?’ He says, ‘I brought arithmetic’” I have no idea what Bill Clinton meant by saying, “I brought arithmetic.” It is sheer nonsense. It is a Joe Biden type of remark.
Today she tried to rationalize what she meant at a rally for New York Representative Sean Patrick Maloney. “So-called trickle-down economics has failed. I shorthanded this point the other day, so let me be absolutely clear about what I’ve been saying for a couple of decades: Our economy grows when businesses and entrepreneurs create good-paying jobs here in an America where workers and families are empowered to build from the bottom up and the middle out — not when we hand out tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs or stash their profits overseas.”
What??? She shorthanded a point in a speech? How do you shorthand a speech? It is poor communications. It may also be the reason why she accomplished nothing as Secretary of State.
What does she mean by “…workers and families are empowered to build from the bottom up and the middle out?” How is that to be accomplished?
Now the only thing that makes some sense is when she said, “Our economy grows when businesses and entrepreneurs create good paying jobs here in America….” Good paying jobs help to stimulate the economy because people have money to spend. Spending in turn helps businesses to grow by providing them with profits. Profits create business expansions and thus creates more jobs. Profits and jobs equal prosperity.
The life blood of any business is the profit bottom line. Taxes eat into profits. Even President John Kennedy recognized that fact and fought for cutting corporate taxes and individual taxes. After his death, taxes were cut and prosperity was the result until President Lyndon Johnson began his War on Poverty and plunged the nation deeper into the Vietnam War. Taxes were raised again and prosperity declined.
Hillary Clinton is in la-la land. As a New York resident, how does she explain the fact that Democratic New York Governor Cuomo is offering tax free zones to attract corporations to his state? Why would he do such a thing? Because he knows that small taxes are an incentive for businesses to relocate to build up their bottom lines.
All around the United States companies are moving to states where taxes are low and unions don’t dictate to companies. Those states, primarily Republican governed states, recognize that companies create jobs and the more people work the greater amount of taxes are collected because workers are spending more. It is a cyclical thing.
Look around the United States Hillary! Democratic controlled states like California and Illinois are going off the financial cliff because of their spending, entitlements, debt and high taxes. They are losing businesses. Why don’t you understand? It is elementary.
