New Middle East Scandal: Joe Biden Lied Twice About It

The liberal New York Times newspaper reported on October 14 that US arms shipments to Syria “are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists.” In a story entitled “Rebel Arms Flow Is Said to Benefit Jihadists in Syria” by David E. Sanger, “casts into doubt whether the White House’s strategy of minimal and indirect intervention in the Syrian conflict is accomplishing its intended purpose of helping a democratic-minded opposition topple an oppressive government, or is instead sowing the seeds of future insurgencies hostile to the United States.”

Does Obama know? Yes! “President Obama and other senior officials are aware from classified assessments of the Syrian conflict…” reported the Times.

This Middle East “Fast and Furious” Operation has American officials “trying to understand why hard-line Islamists have received the lion’s share of the arms shipped to the Syrian opposition through the shadowy pipeline with roots in Qatar, and, to a lesser degree, Saudi Arabia.”

Paul Ryan confronted Biden twice on this issue during their debate and twice Biden denied there were any problems with US arm shipments to the Syrian rebels. Yet the Times made it clear that the opposite was true and Obama and other senior officials (Joe Biden) were fully aware of it. Biden lied.

A diplomat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported that “We haven’t seen anyone step up to take a leadership role for what happens after Assad. There’s not much of anything that’s encouraging. We should have lowered our expectations.”

The diplomat went on to say that the “disorganization is strengthening the hand of Islamic extremist groups in Syria, some with ties or affiliations with Al Qaeda.” He gave this warning: “The longer this goes on, the more likely those groups will gain strength.”

So far the Obama Middle East policy has been a failure. Will Syria become a new base for terrorists using American weapons we supplied?
