Volt Hybrid Not Selling

Today, March 3, 2012, the Wall Street Journal reported that GM was suspending production of the $40,000 Volt hybrid for 5 weeks. Only 7,671 cars were sold and sales are slow. 1,300 workers were laid off because they have an inventory of unsold Volts.
The Journal also stated that the car’s performance varied with weather and driving conditions. The article pointed out that to break even because of the high price tag, “you’d have to wait 12 years before you saved enough on gas to make up the Volt price.” This was on the condition that you purchased no gas.
